Here are some questions to ask yourself, and tips for what to include for each section of your website.
Tagline:
Create a catchy one-liner to sum up your program. Things you might include:
- Pedagogy (Montessori-inspired, Play-based, etc.)
- In-demand spots you have open (ex: infants)
- Date students can start ("Now enrolling for March 2021!")
- How many years of experience you have ("A program serving our community for over 10 years")
- Any special discounts you're offering ("Offering a 10% New Year discount!")
Here are some sample taglines:
- An early childhood play garden and Reggio-inspired preschool - now enrolling!
- A place to explore, be inspired, and be nurtured
- A multilingual Mandarin, Cantonese, and English program in Outer Mission - Now enrolling!
- Nurturing Mandarin-immersion infant and toddler program in North Beach
- A Spanish bilingual nature-based program for little explorers – Now enrolling for September 2024!
Basics:
You can read more about optimizing your website for tours and how the Basics section plays into that in this article.
Our Teachers:
Hopefully this is the easiest part to write! Because it's all about you and your team. Parents want to get a sense of who will be caring for and interacting with their child on a daily basis. Personalize this section with specifics about who you are, how long you've been working with children, and why you're in this field. Things you might include:
- Years of experience working with children
- Any degrees you have
- What made you open a program
- What you love about working with children
Philosophy:
Depending on your approach to early learning, this might be the easiest section to write, or the hardest! If you follow a specific philosophy (ie: Waldorf, Montessori, Reggio) it might be easy to sum that up in a few sentences. If you are a hybrid program, philosophy-inspired, or even just play based, it might feel harder to sum up your philosophy. You might want to start by reading through our learning philosophies overview for inspiration. Here are some guiding questions to help you capture your philosophy:
- What do children need/deserve in their early learning experiences?
- How do children learn?
- What kind of environment are you trying to provide for children?
- What are your goals for children in your program?
- What does "school readiness" mean to you?
About Our Program:
This section is optional, and you shouldn't feel like you have to include it. If you feel like you've said everything you need to say in the Basics and Philosophy section, you can leave it blank. This section is great for sharing anything that you weren't able to capture in other parts of your website. Things you might include:
- Specifics about food and meals
- If you do any outdoor excursions (ie: field trips)
- Do you have additional instructors who come to the program (ie: a weekly yoga class)
Rhythm of the Day:
Give parents a sense of how your day flows. This doesn't need to be overly detailed, but helps parents form a picture of how their child will spend the day. Here's a sample basic schedule:
7:30 -- Drop off & choice time
9:00 -- Morning meeting
9:15 -- Wash hands and snack
9:30 -- Choice time & small group activities
10:30 -- Outdoor play time
11:45 -- Clean up & lunch
12:30 -- Transition to nap
1:00 -- Nap time
2:00 -- Quiet choices
3:00 -- Afternoon snack
3:15 -- Outdoor play
4:30 - 6:00 -- Indoor choices & pick up
Our Location
This is another optional section. Sometimes it's helpful to share some information about what to expect from the physical location of your program. Things you might include:
- Type of building you're located in (ie: house, apartment, commercial space, park, etc.)
- What your neighborhood feels like
- Any nearby landmarks, roads, highways, or public transportation options that might be helpful for parents to know
- Where you spend time outside
